Contact relays have three high current lines and a normally closed control line. These units are normally used in soft-start systems wired in series with another to deny two contactors being closed at a time.
Thermal Overloads sense the amount of amperage going to the motor, and if it exceeds the setting on the dial, it will trip a circuit that is wired into the contactor.
These are used in conjunction with a magnetic starter.
